Tribu Kabugwason won the championship of Salakayan Festival 2019 Ati Tribe competition

The 21st Salakayan Festival has been celebrated successfully by the Miagawanons. It is filled with colorful costumes that showcased traditions, cultures, faith, livelihood and bravery of the Miagawnons to defend their land against the Morros (Muslims) raider who frequently attacked the shoreline of Miag-ao.

This year Tribu Kabugwason of Miag-ao National High School won the championship in Ati Tribe competition. The Tribe alson won the minor award in Best in Choreography, Best in Music, Best in Costume, and Best in Performance.

The First Runner-up was won by Tribu Salagyawan of Alejandro Firmeza Memorial National High School. The Tribe showcased their culture, the abundant livelihood of Miagawanons, and their faith.

The Second Runner-up was won by Tribu Tabun-ak of Palaca-Damilisan National High School. The tribe ended their performance with colorful flowery costumes.

The Salakayan Festival is a commemoration of the vistory of Miagawanons against the Muslim raider who frequently disturbed their livelihood in 1754. It is celebrated annualy every first week of February alongside with the Town founding anniversary. The word Salakayan derived from the local word “salakay” which means “attack”.
