The municipality of Miag-ao in the province of Iloilo celebrated their 304th founding anniversary and the 22nd Salakayan Festival with the theme: “Panawagan Sa Kultura Sang Dayalogo Padulong sa Paghidaet” – the call for peace through cultural presentation. One of the highlights of the event is the cultural dance competition participated by the different schools in the municipality.

The annual event held every first week of February. The dance drama commemorates how the municipality was founded and the struggles of the Miagawhanons against the Moro raiders.
“Salakayan” derived its name from the local dialect “salakay” which mean “to raid”. It is the story of the town and their struggles to fight the Moro raiders.

The famous fabric product of Miag-ao is also proudly represented during the dance competition.
