A native of Igbaras, Iloilo, athlete Joebert Elmaguin and his team are preparing to represent the Philippines. He will compete at the World Trail Running Championship in Spain from September 25-28, 2025. Joebert will tackle the grueling 80-kilometer long-distance trail race, putting Igbaras firmly on the international running map.
A true son of Igbaras, the 23-year-old from Barangay Bagay knows these mountains intimately. His journey started young – by age 17, he was already guiding visitors up the challenging slopes of Mt. Napulak, right here in his hometown. That deep connection with the terrain clearly fueled his passion for the trails.
Joebert recently completed his studies. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, major in Welding and Fabrication Technology, from ISAT University Miagao. He’s the proud son of Jose Romili E. Elmaguin and Gemma J. Elmaguin.
Right now, Joebert is in his final preparations. He is training at high altitude in Benguet to get ready for the world stage. His relentless dedication to trail running has already brought him significant success here at home. He has achieved multiple wins in local races across Panay Island and nationally. These victories are what earned him this incredible shot at the world title.
Representing the Philippines is a massive honor, but getting there takes serious support. The community is rallying behind Joebert. Any monetary assistance to help cover his training and competition costs in Spain would be deeply appreciated.
Let’s all get behind Joebert Elmaguin as he carries our flag in Spain! Show your support for our hometown hero taking on the world’s best.
