San Miguel Corp. to break ground on new Boracay airport terminal in July 2025

Caticlan Airport Terminal Expansion

CATICLAN, Aklan – San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is preparing to break ground on a new passenger terminal at Godofredo P. Ramos Airport (the gateway to Boracay) as early as July. The planned terminal is designed to handle roughly seven million passengers annually and will include eight boarding bridges to improve aircraft access. In fact, SMC’s infrastructure arm is already leading the modernization of the Godofredo P. Ramos facility – part of a broader effort to upgrade Boracay’s air gateway.

Timeline and Construction Partners

Transportation Secretary Vivencio B. Dizon told reporters that SMC “has committed to break ground on a terminal building this June or July”. He added that SMC President Ramon S. Ang has “committed” to completing the project before 2028, in time for the end of the current administration. For the construction, SMC engaged Megawide Construction Corp. – led by Edgar Saavedra – to design and build the new terminal. Megawide has secured the contract with Trans Aire Development Holdings Corp. – an SMC Infrastructure subsidiary that operates Caticlan Airport – to carry out the project.

SMC’s Broader Airport Projects

SMC is also behind one of the Philippines’ largest airport projects. Through its affiliate San Miguel Aerocity Inc., the conglomerate is developing the P740-billion New Manila International Airport in Bulacan. That 2,500-hectare airport city is envisioned as a world-class aerotropolis capable of handling about 100 million passengers per year. The Boracay terminal expansion is thus one piece of SMC’s wider push to modernize the country’s aviation infrastructure.
