The secret of my cheap solo travel.
Saan aabot ang budget mo sa pagtatravel?
Maybe for some, traveling alone sounds so expensive, right? Imagine you will be the only one who will pay for the rented transportations, accommodations, and even for the foods, and tour guide. Yes! You will be the only one who will pay for it, but it doesn’t mean it is expensive as what you think. In almost all of my solo travel I did not spend much. Tipid overload travel ‘to.
Here are the secrets:
✔I don’t pay much for the accommodations.
Maybe it’s not my fault that people offered me their home to stay for free. I confess that I hate sleeping on the soft bed during my solo travel. I always bring a tent with me wherever I go.
✔I don’t always spend much for the foods and drinks.
It’s not being “Kapal-Mukha”. It’s just happening that the Filipino people are very hospitable. They will feed you when you are hungry and they will give you water when you are thirsty.
✔I always bring bread worth at least Php20 (depend on how much you need to survive the trip).
✔I don’t spend much for the transportation.
I always ask help from the local officials (para was loko) at the same time I never transact for rent (akupar) Transpo except for some consideration. I always negotiate. Just be friendly and use your charm. 😉
✔Hitch is the secret.
It is a little bit “Pakapalan ng Mukha” but if it works you can save a lot. I did it for how many times. Remember, there is nothing wrong for being friendly. If they will voluntarily offer you a transportation, then go, if not, just talk to them if you can hitch. 😂
✔I always make good negotiations.
There is no expensive fare if you negotiate it well.
P.S. Know how far the place is, Hinde po Sila malulugi… Just know how much gasoline will consume. Promise you can save up to 70% of your fare Lalo na SA mga habal habal.
✔Walk if you can.
Try to figure out the place if it is just a walking distance. Walking is good for your health so don’t be lazy to try it. Use the google map if necessary or try to ask people around.
✔I always have budget goal.
Save first before you travel, that’s really matter. Don’t spend beyond the amount you can afford. Have a budget plan and stick to it. Suffer the consequence if you planned your budget incorrectly (but always have contingency plans for it).
✔Tour Guiding with the local guide.
Know if there is a fixed amount of tour guiding fee. If there is fixed amount, then respect it, but if you cannot afford the amount of tour guiding fee just be frank with them. There are still people who are happy to showcase the beautiful spots of their place. They don’t demand for the amount of tour guiding fee (but it doesn’t mean that you will not pay them right).
✔Don’t act like a stranger.
Don’t be a stranger. Feel at home. 😃
Do I have relatives in this place? If none, then look for anyone who has the same last name with yours and even with your middle name. It is also nice to meet 6th degree and so on relatives. Somehow this strategy could help you in terms of fares and accommodations and of course on your safety (In some area there is a difference in the fares of tourists and local residence).
✔Ask help with the local officials if necessary.
They will be the one who can help you. Never be hesitant to ask help from them.
✔Avoid unnecessary expenses.
Don’t buy anything unless you need it in your travel.
✔KNOW THE REASON (S) WHY YOU ARE TRAVELING. Do you want to enjoy the gift of nature? Or you just wanted to take beautiful selfies for fame? Whatever purpose it is, don’t be so selfish to take good care of our mother nature. Travel with a purpose. 😄
✔Don’t forget to share it to the other aspiring traveler. 😅
